Tamur, the best river rafting combo trip in Nepal. “4 days on the trek and 6 days on the river.”
This epic adventure combines the Himalaya’s 2 greatest features- steep rivers and High Mountain peaks. We begin due east in Basantapur where we journey deep into the rhodedendrum jeweled jungle. These hills are home to tribes of Rai and Limbu communities infamous for their strength, cunning and ability to live off the land. As you can rightly imagine we hire our porters locally to support their economy, share culture and enjoy their infamous local and traditional fermented millet drink brew- tungba.
We trek for 3 days through a maze of green hills and lush rice terraces. As we reach the sacred lake, Gupha Pokhari, above10, 000 feet we are met with commanding views of Kanchenjunga, Everest and Makalu. As we descend we begin to see the Mighty Tamur River.
We put in at Dhoban the base of the 3 main tributaries feeding into the Tamur. The steep grade coupled with high volume water creates a full-on whitewater explosion. The rapids are so continuous it’s hard to know where one ends the next begins- a raft guide’s dream. We power through massive wave trains, roar around bends, rage through rapids and maneuver technical drops. After 5 days of sheer adrenaline the canyon walls give way to the majestic wide expanse that is the Sun Kosi.
Is It For Me? With no warm up days you are straight into the action with this one. If you are short of time but still want a wilderness experience then this river is perfect for you.
Day 6 : Trek to Danakyu
